The Skin Im In Book Project #3

The central idea of the book "The Skin Im In" by Sharon G. Flake is to love yourself no matter what you look like, how you dress, or who your associated with. In this story Maleeka who hates the skin shes in. A new teacher appears and has a scar on her face, a lot of kids start making fun of  Maleeka  for helping the new teacher my taunting her with words like "I don't see no pretty just a whole lotta black." at the beginning of the story words like this got to Maleeka but she soon realized that she shouldn't be ashamed with how she looks just because most people don't look the same, she should embrace her beauty and be proud of it.

No Fear - Book Project #2

The story I chose to read is No Fear Shakespeare. This story is about all the things Macbeth did to make it to the top (king), selfish and all, his story is horrific, shocking, and grasping book to read.
The theme of No Fear was if you really want something go out and earn it the right way, even if you know there is no way in getting it at least the people will recognize your greatness and will indeed be grateful of it. Instead in this story Macbeth decided to kill his king and put his land through great sorrow of the horrific situation. Macbeth went and betrayed his land for his own selfish greed.
The first reason I believe this is the theme is because Lady Macbeth stated “you want to be powerful, and you don't lack ambition, but you don't have the mean streak that these things call for.” Towards the beginning of the story Lady Macbeth said this because she believed that Macbeth wasn't capable of killing the king but soon things take a turn and Lady Macbeths perspective on this changes deeply.
Right after Lady Macbeth had stated “you want to be powerful, and you don't lack ambition, but you don't have the mean streak that these things call for.” I feel like Macbeth felt the need to prove her wrong so he took it upon himself to create a devious plan one that had to be done so preciously or his life as we all knew it would be over. He would create a master plan to kill the king. Macbeth stated “Now I’m decided, and I will exert every muscle in my body to commit this crime. Go now, and pretend to be a friendly hostess. Hide with a false pleasant face what you know in your false, evil heart.” When Macbeth stated this to Lady Macbeth it showed that he is truly evil and deceitful, for someone to have the will and anger to go against the land you promised to protect for selfish reasons has no heart and no meaning to there words.
The whole entire story was based upon this one thing that Macbeth decided to do. He could never re-trace back to the past and re-consider the terrible thing that he had done, in the end it shall haunt him forever but that still does not distichous the fact that the things he did were cruel and it just goes to show that he would have never been worthy of king if he didn't kill the original king at first. In the end what's done is done and nothing can change that.

Chicken-Licken Remix

One hot summer day Suzzy decided that she was going to go to the beach. When Suzzy got to the beach she saw a perfect area to set up right under a nice palm tree. Suzzy pulled out her chair and book and then all of a sudden a huge thing goes flying over her head. Immediately she thinks there are aliens and runs to go inform the town mayor.
On her way towards the mayor office she sees her close friend Matt. “Hey Matt, where are you headed” asked Suzzy, “i'm on my way to the beach, don't you feel this weather its above 85.” exclaimed Matt “I just came from there, there are aliens in the sky i'm going to the town mayor right now” Suzzy stated, “really?, I'm coming with you then” said Matt
Now both Suzzy and Matt where headed towards the mayors office when Matt saw a good friend of his, Chris. “Hey Chris where are you headed?” asked Matt “i'm going to the beach isn't this weather just perfect for surfing” said Chris “no dont go i was on my way there when I saw Suzzy, and suzzy said that she was just there. there were aliens in the sky were on our way to tell the mayor right now” said Matt “really?, I'm coming too” Matt replied.
So now Suzzy, Matt, and Chris are headed for the mayors office when Chris saw his good friend, Maya. “Hey Maya where are you headed?” said Chris “i'm going to the beach, hot boys on a summer day what can be any better” said Maya “no dont go i was on my way there when i saw Matt who saw Suzzy who said that she was just there and there were aliens in the sky were on our way to tell the mayor right now”said Chris “really?, im coming to then” said Maya.
Suzzy, Matt, Chris, and Maya were now all on there way to the mayors office when Maya saw her good friend Sammy. “Hey Sammy where are you headed?” asked Maya “where everyone else is headed the beach its so hot.” replied Sammy “no dont go i was on my way there when i saw Chris who saw Matt who saw Suzzy who said that she was just there and there were aliens in the sky were on our way to tell the mayor right now” Maya stated “really?, im coming to then.” said Sammy.
Suzzy, Matt, Chris, Maya, and Sammy were all headed to the mayors office when Sammy bumped into her good friend Drake. “Hey Drake where are you headed?” asked Sammy “to the beach of course didnt you hear theres going to be a big volleyball tournament” said Drake “no dont go i was on my way there when i saw Maya who saw Chris who saw Matt who saw Suzzy who said that she was just there and there were aliens in the sky were on our way to tell the mayor right now” said Sammy “really? im coming to then” said Drake.
Suzzy, Matt, Chris, Maya, Sammy, and Drake were headed to the mayors office when Drake bumped into his good friend Josh. “Hey Josh where are you headed?’ asked Drake “Im going to the beach its like the hottest day of summer” said Josh “no do i was just there when i saw Sammy who saw Maya who saw Chris who saw Matt who saw Suzzy who said that she was just there and there were aliens in the sky were on our way to tell the mayor right now” “really? im coming to then” said Josh
Suzzy, Matt, Chris. Maya, Sammy, Drake, and Josh were all now headed to the mayors office when Josh saw his good friend Nikki. “Hey Nikky where are you headed?” asked Josh “i'm going to the beach i figured it would be a good day to just lay out read an tan” said Nikky “no doing i was on my way there when i saw Drake who saw Sammy who saw Maya who saw Chris who saw Matt who saw Suzzy who said that she was just there and there were aliens in the sky were on our way to tell the mayor right now” said Josh “really? im coming to then.” said Nikky
Suzzy, Matt, Chris, Maya, Sammy, Drake, Josh, and Nikki were all headed to the mayors office when Nikky bumped into her friend Mike who said he had just came from the mayors office and the mayor wasn't there he was at the beach with everyone else. So then Suzzy, Matt, Chris, Maya, Sammy, Drake, Josh, Nikki, and Mike were all headed back to beach to tell the mayor that there was aliens, but once they got there they had seen the mayor and tried to inform him but he said he had seen the same thing and Suzzy must have mistaken it for a airplane. So then the day was over and none of them were able to have the perfect summer day like they had wished.

Response to The Pearl

John Steinback's novella, The Pearl teaches us not to be greedy when you already have the things that should really matter to you, family. The climax of this story all started when Kino and Juanas son, Coyotito got stung by a scorpion. When this happened Coyotitos life was immediately at risk and Kino and Juana were going to do anything in their power to protect their first born child alive. Juana started sucking the venom out of Coyotito and spiting it on to the ground, she had prayed that she was doing enough before it killed him. As she was doing this she told Kino to go and find the towns doctor because they were in need of serious help. Kino and just about the rest of the nosy town processioned toward the doctors home. Once they arrived the doctor had said no, he was racist and selfish and didn't care about what would happen to Kinos son. As Kino tried copping with him the doctor finally settled an agreement. If Kino wanted the doctors help he would need to find a pearl. Kino and Juana set out in to the sea to try and a find a pearl. This is how it all started once they found a pearl which is very rare to do Coyotito was better and did not need the doctors help, therefore Kino and his family were basically rich. The plan was for Kino to sell the pearl and spend the money on getting married and money that can go towards Coyotitos schooling. Then things took a turn on us Kino became greedy and selfish and his family was tearing apart slowly but surly. It took Kino awhile to notice this he went through a lot to get him to point of throwing the pearl back into the ocean so that he could focused on what really mattered. By this time Coyotito was murdered all because of the pearl but I believe Kino understands now that he let something get to the best of him and killed the number one thing that mattered to him, his son. It took Kino to learn the hard way that family is most important but now I know he will never let anything come in between them.

Writting Assessment

Writing Assessment
Iyana Zimmerman
Period 4

The two  stories we read are called “A Dark Brown Dog” by Stephen Crane, and “The Day I Got Lost” By Isaac Singer.
The point of view of “A Dark Brown Dog” is third person omniscient, because the author conveys everyone's thoughts. What i mean by conveys is that the author explains everyone's thoughts and point of view in the story and not just the main character. The point of view of “The Day I Got Lost” is 1st person because the narrator refers to himself in the story by using the word “I”. The difference between these two stories is that in the text of “A Dark Brown Dog” it stated “he looked so comical on his back, and holding his paws peculiar, that the child was greatly amused and gave him little taps repeatedly, to keep him so” not only is the author explaining what the dog is doing but he is also explaining what the child is doing, therefore this would be third person omniscient. In the story “The Day I Got Lost” the narrator stated “I've been living in New York city for over forty years, yet whenever I want to go uptown, I find myself walking downtown” in this sentence the narrator stated I've, and I many times referring to himself which makes this story first person.
The tone in these two stories are very similar a little sad but then a little humorous. In the story “A Dark Brown Dog” it was very sad because of the things that were going on, but then at parts of the story I find myself thinking that they were joking around and trying to put it in a humorous way so that it wouldn't effect the sadness part of it so much. What I mean by this is that in the story “A Dark Brown Dog” the author wrote “In appearance she was like a gagged prisoner” when I read this sentence I thought well that's a little harsh and mean to say about someone but then I thought the way they had stated it seemed as if they wanted to put it in a joking matter which kind of made it more humorous than mean. In the story “The Day I Got Lost” it was also sort of sad because the man couldn't find his home, it was his birthday, it was raining outside and he was all alone, but then it was a little humorous because I've never heard of a professor that doesn't remember where they live so it seemed a little silly to me. What I mean by this is that in the story “The Day I got Lost’ the narrator said “what a night! I've forgotten my address, I've left my briefcase in a taxi. I've lost my umbrella, and don't know where my rubbers are.” When the narrator said this I thought wow that's kind of sad that a grown man that is a professor loses so much stuff but at the same time I thought that's a little funny.
The word choice of these two stories are actually very different. “A Dark Brown Dog” is very dark humorous. What I mean by that is in the text the author would say something funny but in a serious situation, for example in the text it stated “the child beat his pursuer with a small stick he had found. The dog lay down and prayed until the child had finished, and resumed his journey.” This sentence started out by saying that the child was beating the dog which is a serious matter and then this sentence ended with the dog laid there and prayed which is humorous because you never hear of a dog laying down and praying. In the story “The Day I Got Lost” the word choice is very humorous in a kind of silly situation. For example in the text the narrator said “I don't know, I said finally. I found him in the street. Lets just call him Bow Wow for the time being.” In this sentence its very funny because people who usually see pets or animals in the street don't take them in but not only did the professor take the dog in but he named him Bow Wow which is a pretty silly/humorous name.
The effect of these two stories where very different for me. In the story “A Dark Brown Dog” was third person omniscient dark humor which made me feel very sad that they were being or trying to be humorous when it was such a sad situation. In the story “The Day I Got Lost” which was 1st person humorous didn't really have a crazy effect on me, i thought it was a great story very funny and one that I would love reading.

Response to poem

In the poem we read called "We Breathed You In" by Patti Tana, was mainly about the emotional feelings that we inherited during 9/11. In this poem Patti Tana stated, "we breathed you in the air we breathed the day you burned" I believe Patti was saying that as all of those victims were burning on 9/11 there souls were not vanished forever. That all the witnesses breathing in the smoke that had come from the victims bodies joined them together as one. "We breathed you in the air we breathed the day you burned" can also mean that apart of you lives in us and we will never forget you or what happened on 9/11 because we will carry it with us.
